Going back again to work in the kalo and we are learning a lot about the kalo farms and what it takes to help out and make the kalo thrive. I am learning more traditional ways on how to make a kalo farm by using the tools and resources the leaders of the Kalo farm use. Going to the farm shows me how the Hawaiians diverted the water from a stream in order to create a natural watering system for plants that need a lot of water.
The kalo farm gives back to the community by physically giving out their food produced by the farm. The farm produces kalo, kulolo, poi, paʻi ʻai, laulau, and various different types of berries and herbs. By working in the kalo we practice the values of a leader because of how much work it takes to maintain and contribute to the kalo farm.
